Music

Overview

Jo Richardson Community School became a Specialist Music College in September 2005, one of only 18 Music Specialists Schools in the country. As a result of our successful application, the school has been able to upgrade music and ICT facilities in classrooms, install a professional recording studio and a sixth form suite.

We have also been able to run many extra curricular projects, initiatives and Master Classes from visiting professionals. All weekly instrumental lessons are offered free to students and we have a very large uptake with an equally long waiting list!

We run many lunchtime and after school clubs and work very closely with our Community Music Service, collaborating on many joint projects and performances across the Borough. We have also established close links with our Partner Primary schools.

Music Education at Jo Richardson will provide all students with an understanding of the contempory world through the medium of music and develop the ability to formulate and shape experience of the world using an abstract and emotive form of expression.
