Mission Statement for MFL
MFL education at JRCS will provide all students with the opportunity to communicate with native speakers at home and abroad and thus foster sensitivity, understanding and awareness of other countries, their people and their culture. We aim to give all students the opportunity to fully participate in a range of language experiences which embodies the ‘Success for All and "ACHIEVE" motto of the school. This is achieved with high quality teaching and learning and with a focus on high expectations.
Department aims and objectives
To have high expectations of all students attainment and personal conduct.
To create an environment where there is an emphasis on success and potential, and where all individuals and their achievements are valued and celebrated.
To encourage students to develop self-confidence and self-discipline in the use of the target language..
To address and contribute to wider cross-curricular activities.
To focus on the international dimension within the remit of the recently obtained International Schools Award.
Extra-Curricular Activities
Clubs are offered outside of lessons to support learning beyond the classroom. They are offered to both KS3 and KS4 students who wish to expand their experiences further. They are run in French, Spanish and Italian at lunchtimes and after-school. Guest speakers are invited to address students about the advantages of languages in the world of work. The European Day of Languages is an annual event greatly anticipated and enjoyed by the whole school community. The Department places great emphasis on visits abroad with trips on offer at all key stages.
Homework
Homework is identified in each module of work. Effort is made to ensure that homework tasks are differentiated with easier work at the beginning and extension work towards the end. Homework will be set on a regular basis for all Year 9 with written work alternating with learning homework. This will be to reinforce and consolidate what has been covered in class. Year 7 and 8 students are given an extended homework according to the school policy. Books are marked or initialled and dated once a fortnight.
